Apartment fire in Fullerton displaces dozens

A raging fire in a Fullerton apartment building Sunday night severely damaged at least 20 units and  displaced about 50 people, authorities said.

No one was seriously injured in the blaze, which began just before 8:30 p.m. in the U-shaped, two-story apartment building set over a large garage, said Fullerton and Brea Fire Department Chief Wolfgang Knabe.

Knabe said 100 firefighters rushed to 2720 Associated Road to battle the blaze and were able to knock it down about 11 p.m.

Knabe said two firefighters suffered minor injuries. He said the American Red Cross would be working to find suitable places to house displaced residents.

Authorities said it was not immediately clear what caused the fire, but Knabe said arson investigators were on the scene.
