Vista man arrested on suspicion of killing woman, attacking child

A Vista man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of murdering a 41-year-old woman and brutally attacking an 8-year-old girl.

Daniel Hernandez, 28, was an acquaintance of the dead woman, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. He was booked into county jail.

The woman was found dead and the child severely injured in their San Marcos apartment when deputies responded to an "incomplete" 911 call about 3 a.m. Hernandez was arrested about 13 hours later.

The girl was taken to Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego, where her condition has been upgraded from critical to stable.

The victims' names were not released.
