Three dead in Azusa house fire; police investigating
Three people were found dead Thursday as L.A. County firefighters fought a blaze that engulfed a house and garage in the 500 block of North Dalton Avenue in Azusa, authorities said.
Azusa police and county fire officials were alerted at 2:43 p.m., when witnesses reported a large plume of smoke rising from the garage area of the property, Azusa police said.
Fire crews arrived to find the residence fully engulfed in flames and “the sound of ammunition ‘burning off’ as the property burned,” read a police statement.
Because of these “popping noises,” Azusa police set a perimeter around the structure while firefighters battled the blaze, officials said.
Three adults were found dead at the scene. The fire was extinguished at 4:03 p.m., county fire officials said.
Azusa police detectives are still investigating the incident, and L.A. County sheriff’s arson investigators were also called to assist.
No additional information was provided.
Anyone with information related to this fire is asked to call the Azusa Police Department at (626) 812-3200.
