Drivers, beware: Rain expected to last through morning commute

Southern California, be warned: That rain you woke up to should last through the morning commute.

A cold front moving through Ventura and Los Angeles counties brought the overnight showers, which should linger until late Tuesday morning, said Rich Thompson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

"It definitely should be a wet morning commute for everybody," he said.

After the rain moves out, gusty winds are expected across much of the region during the rest of the day. A high-wind warning is in effect for mountain areas in Los Angeles County, which could see gusts up to 65 mph, Thompson said. The Santa Clarita and San Fernando valleys, along with the Santa Monica Mountains, could see winds between 35 mph and 50 mph.

Temperatures are also expected to stay cool, Thompson said, hovering in the mid- to upper 50s during the day. Tuesday night should see temperatures drop to mid- to upper 30s, he added, especially in areas without the winds.

"It's a chilly sort of day here," he said. "Really a cool, breezy day."
