Police kill graduate student in dorm at Cal State San Bernardino

Police fatally shot a graduate student at Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday night.

Lt. Paul Williams of the San Bernardino Police Department told the Press-Enterprise that university police officers responded to a disturbance at a dorm. A graduate student got into an altercation with the officers, who opened fire. The student was pronounced dead at the scene and one of the officers was taken to a hospital for treatment, Williams told the paper.

The student's name was not released. No one else was injured.

Details of exactly what happened were not immediately available.

"The altercation became physical and the subject became violent. Sometime during that, the officers feared for their safety. They discharged their weapon, striking the subject," Williams told KABC-TV.
