Man lying on road is struck and killed in San Gabriel Valley

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a motorist in the San Gabriel Valley early Saturday, authorities said.

The incident occurred about 12:20 a.m. on Colima Road, just west of Otterbein Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

For unknown reasons, the pedestrian, identified as Earl T. Bourne II, 28, stepped off the sidewalk on the edge of Colima Road and laid down in the No. 2 lane of the eastbound roadway, the CHP said in a prepared statement.   

A sport utility vehiclestruck Bourne, causing fatal injuries, authorities said.

The incident remains under investigation.
