If you’re in Palmdale, don’t be alarmed if you see a ticket on your windshield. The city is offering motorists a chance to be cited — for being courteous.

Through Christmas Eve, members of the city’s parking enforcement division will be issuing “good parking tickets” to drivers who display good parking habits, officials said.

Palmdale’s spokesman, John Mlynar, said an example of someone deserving acknowledgement would be “a large vehicle with a mom that has a lot of kids that goes back and forth in the parking space to make sure they’re in the lines and not taking more than one space.”

In addition to being “cited,” motorists who demonstrate politeness when parking will receive a present, such as gift cards from the Yard House restaurant or a gift basket from the Body Shop, according to information published by the city. The good parkers will also be entered in a drawing to win one of five annual parking passes, valued at $450 each, from the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority, city officials said. This marks the second year that Palmdale has run the rewards program.

“Keeping with the holiday spirit, it’s important that people demonstrate courtesy and make the right choices when it comes to parking,” Dulce Gomez, Palmdale’s parking enforcement supervisor, said in a statement. “Our good parking tickets let them know that their good actions are seen and appreciated.”
