First flu-related death of the season strikes Orange County

Public heath officials announced Monday that the death of a 51-year-old Fountain Valley man marks the first flu-related death of the season in Orange County.

The man died last week, according to a statement from the Orange County Health Care Agency, but officials gave no details about the case. The agency's statement urges people to get their shots because “flu season has not yet peaked in Orange County.”

Officials are recommending flu shots for everyone 6 months old and older. They especially urge that children under 5 and adults older than 65 get the shot.  

As of Dec. 15, at least one other person younger than 65 had died in California in a flu-related case, according to the California Department of Public Health.
