Moreno Valley student accused of threatening to kill teacher

Police arrested a Moreno Valley high school student after he allegedly wrote a note threatening to shoot a teacher, authorities said Tuesday.

Fernando Hernandez, 18, was arrested Monday on suspicion of making terrorist threats.

Investigators with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department searched Hernandez’s home, with the cooperation of his parents, and found a bolt-action rifle and small amount of ammunition. The rifle was purchased legally and was secured with a trigger lock, according to a statement released by the Sheriff’s Department.

The alleged threat comes just days after a Connecticut gunman killed 20 first-graders and six adults Friday morning at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Adam Lanza, 20, killed his mother before the murderous rampage and then turned a gun on himself.

Hernandez is being held at the Riverside County Southwest Detention Center in lieu of $5,000 bail.
