Keep your gloves and umbrellas out because more chilly weather and rain are expected for the last weekend of 2012, the National Weather Service says.

Cold temperatures experienced throughout the region Thursday night and Friday morning were due to low humidity caused by offshore winds, said Stuart Seto, a weather specialist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard. “Offshore winds bring very dry air to the area and lower the humidity, which can help lower the temperature,” Seto said.

Friday morning lows were 35 degrees in the valleys, 45 degrees in downtown Los Angeles and 20 degrees in Lancaster in the high desert.

Overnight temperatures are expected to drop one to two degrees Saturday morning, Seto said, with a chance of rain in the afternoon through Sunday. Rainfall will range from one-tenth to a quarter inch.

By Sunday, the overnight lows are expected to start rising and continue to do so into next week, Seto said, although temperatures will be below normal levels.
