LAPD searches for motive in 170 Freeway shooting

Investigators in North Hollywood were searching for a motive Saturday in a shooting on the 170 Freeway that left a young woman hospitalized and her family’s vehicle riddled with bullets.

“There’s no evidence the shooting was gang-related or a road-rage incident,” said Sgt. Marc LaMont of the LAPD’s North Hollywood Station.

Five family members, including a baby, were traveling on the 170 on their way to dinner in Hollywood just after 7 p.m. Friday when a passing car sprayed their white Nissan Sentra with gunfire.

Officer Luis Garcia of the LAPD’s Media Relations Section said a 20-year-old female passenger in the back seat was struck in the neck. The woman was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center and later released, LaMont said. The other family members, who ranged in age from 1 to 39, were uninjured.

Witnesses described the assailants’ car as “a white foreign-type vehicle with tinted windows,” Garcia said. A man was seen in the back seat of the car, but it was unclear if he was the shooter, Garcia said.

“They still don’t know why this vehicle was targeted,” Garcia said.
