L.A. Now Live: Discuss beached, decomposing Malibu whale
Times reporter Matt Stevens will join L.A. Now Live to discuss the beached Malibu whale and what -- if anything -- is being done to remove the rotting carcass.
As Stevens and staff writer Scott Gold reported, the whale washed up on Monday after apparently being struck by a ship.
Since then, it has spent days being pounded by the surf, devoured by gulls, poked at by gawkers and probed during a necropsy.
But so far, nobody has come up with a plan for its removal.
"There isn't really a protocol for this," said Jeff Hall, marine mammal coordinator with the California Wildlife Center, a nonprofit wildlife hospital.
