Jenni Rivera's remains flown to Long Beach, her hometown

The remains of Mexican American singer Jenni Rivera, who died in a plane crash in Mexico on Sunday, were flown to Long Beach Airport on Thursday.

The singing superstar was born in Long Beach and will be buried there, her family said. A growing memorial of balloons, flowers and cards was set up outside her family's home in Lakewood; she lived in Encino.

Rivera was killed Sunday when the plane on which she was flying plummeted from 28,000 feet, Mexico’s transportation secretary said. The plane crashed in a mountainous area 9,000 feet above sea level.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Two civil lawsuits against the company that owns the private jet accused the firm of lying about its links to a businessman convicted of falsifying maintenance records.

Rivera, who was 43, was mourned by millions of fans.

Two police officers were arrested this week on suspicion of stealing items from the plane crash site. The Associated Press reported that undisclosed items from the crash site were found at the homes of two police officers.
