Garden Grove police fatally shoot carjacking suspect

Garden Grove police fatally shot a suspected carjacker Saturday evening during a struggle at a gas station in Seal Beach, officials said.

The incident began when Garden Grove police began chasing the suspect in that city because he was wanted for violating a restraining order.

The suspect drove to Seal Beach, where he entered a hotel parking lot, abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot. Police said the man then ran to a nearby Chevron station at the corner of Seal Beach Boulevard and Westminster Boulevard and attempted to carjack a man who was pumping gas.

A Garden Grove police officer intervened. The suspect and the officer began to struggle and at least one officer fired on the man. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.
