Frost advisories issued as cold weather persists across Southland

Temperatures continued to hover around the freezing mark across parts of Southern California early Monday as forecasters issued another round of frost advisories for the overnight hours.

Frost advisories were issued from midnight to 9 a.m. Monday for coastal areas and inland valleys in Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles counties, and will also be in effect from midnight to 9 a.m. Tuesday, said Bonnie Bartling, a weather specialist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

Temperatures will remain cool during the day, Bartling said; highs likely will be in the 50s in many areas, topping out at about 61 degrees in downtown Los Angeles.

Overnight temperatures were again expected to drop into the upper 20s and 30s, but Bartling said Tuesday's daytime temperatures were expected to be warmer by about five degrees.

And those hoping for an end to Southern California's cold snap are in luck.

"We'll get back to 70, 72 [degrees] by the end of the week," Bartling said.
