Drunk drivers arrested across L.A. County

A lot of people are still drinking and driving, but at least 1,480 of them have been arrested during a holiday-season crack down, according to authorities.

From Dec. 14 through Dec. 27, officers from 100 county law enforcement agencies arrested 1,480 drivers for being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. That number is down from 1,849 over a comparable period last year. But it’s too early to record a reduction because not all agencies have fully reported, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Stepped-up enforcment will continue through New Year’s Eve with checkpoints, special details and “saturation” patrols, according to the department. In addition, authorities are urging motorists to report drunk drivers by calling 911.
