Lancaster woman, son accused of selling drugs near school

A 70-year-old Lancaster woman and her adult son were arrested on drug-related charges Wednesday after a search warrant of their home turned up a cache of narcotics and assorted prescription drugs, authorities said. A teenage girl was also arrested at the residence on charges of being under the influence of a controlled substance.

According to a statement from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station, the home in the 3200 block of West Avenue L-8 was located opposite an elementary school and had been the source of several complaints regarding drug sales in the area.

On searching the property , sheriff’s investigators said they found methamphetamine, tar heroin and several bottles of assorted prescription drugs.  Authorities said the property was equipped with a sophisticated surveillance system, which included cameras linked to several laptop computers that were placed in different rooms inside the home.

Katherine Hales, 70, was charged with several narcotics-related allegations, including maintaining a home for drug use, authorities said. Her 43- year-old son Daniel Hales faces narcotics charges, including selling drugs in a school zone. Bail for the Haleses was set at $30,000 each, sheriff’s officials said.

The girl, age 17, was  released to the custody of a parent, authorities said.
