City Beat: Nonstop weddings on 12-12-12 at the county clerk's office

The Los Angeles County clerk's office in Norwalk is a busy place. But Wednesday was busier than usual, especially for the volunteers who perform civil marriage ceremonies.
Seventy 12-12-12 wedding ceremonies were scheduled in the office's chapels. Susan Brasch, a retired nurse who now marries people in Norwalk, said she was called in on a day she doesn't usually work to help meet the demand.
For my latest City Beat story, which will run in Thursday's paper, I spent some time watching couples line up to marry, and witnessing wedding ceremonies.
I met one couple getting married here before a night flight to Taiwan, where they will be honored by the groom's parents. Then they will head to Guangzhou, China, for more celebrations, hosted by the bride's family.
In Guangzhou, the bride said, she will wear four gowns at her parents' banquet. A whole pig will be served at each table. Two hundred guests are invited.
