Vigils planned across Southland to mourn those killed in Connecticut
Activists against gun violence will hold candlelight vigils Saturday evening across Los Angeles and surrounding communities to mourn the 26 victims of the shootings at an elementary school in Connecticut this week.
The vigils will be held at 5 p.m. at the Federal Building in the 11000 block of Wilshire Boulevard, Grand View Boulevard Elementary School, El Marino Park in Culver City, Moorpark Park at Moorpark and Laurel Canyon boulevards, Westpark in North Hollywood and Pacific Coast Highway and Pier Avenue in Hermosa Beach.
The ceremony at the Federal Building is sponsored by the Violence Prevention Coalition of Los Angeles, Women Against Gun Violence and the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.
A gunman fatally shot 20 children and six adults at a suburban elementary school in Newtown, Conn. on Friday in what appeared to be the second deadliest shooting in U.S. history. The gunman, identified as Adam Lanza, 20, killed himself.
