Burglar steals two dozen iPads from Encinitas schools

An iPad.

A late-night burglar with a liking for iPads appears to be at work in the northern San Diego County community of Encinitas.

On successive nights, a burglar broke into elementary schools, busted a lock on a storage cabinet and stole a dozen iPads, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

At 12:34 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a burglar alarm at Cardiff Elementary School. Two classrooms had broken windows, a storage cabinet lock was busted, and 12 iPads were gone. Estimated loss: $6,300.

At 2:12 a.m. Monday, deputies responded to a burglar alarm at Ada Harris Elementary School. A classroom had a broken door window, a storage cabinet lock was broken, and 12 iPads were gone. Estimated loss: $6,000.

No suspects were spotted despite a search by deputies, a police dog and helicopter.
