Woman pursued by police jumps off 405 Freeway bridge
A Costa Mesa police pursuit ended Monday when the female suspect fled the vehicle and jumped off a 405 Freeway bridge, police said.
The pursuit began at 10:47 a.m. when an officer on a motorcycle tried to pull the woman over for traffic violations, and she ran red lights and passed other motorists on the side of the road, according to a police news release.
The 33-year-old Costa Mesa woman, whose identity was withheld, was wanted in Los Angeles County for drug-related charges, police said.
Within about four minutes, the woman stopped the vehicle before jumping off the overpass at Bear Street, according to Costa Mesa police Sgt. Zack Hoferitza.
A SigAlert was initially issued because it appeared the woman was hit by a vehicle. She was taken to a hospital, and the SigAlert was canceled, said CHP Officer Denise Quesada.
The woman was unresponsive after she hit the freeway and was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana in critical condition, Hoferitza said.
Police asked that anyone with information regarding the incident contact Sgt. Ed Everett at (714) 754-5395 or Det. David Casarez at (714) 754-5157.
