Upland man arrested in Ontario triple slaying

Ontario police have arrested an Upland man in connection with the slayings of three men during what was believed to be a botched home invasion. Steven Carter

Steven David James Carter, 34, was arrested Tuesday, they said.

Police responded to calls Monday about 6:15 a.m. of a body in the driveway of a home on the 1000 block of South Magnolia Avenue. They then found two other men dead inside.

Authorities said Tuesday the other two are believed to have been Carter's accomplices in the attempted robbery.

Albert Lamar Thomas, 25, and the man in the driveway, who has yet to be identified, are suspected of accompanying Carter to the home with the intent to rob an occupant, police said.

Carter will be charged with three counts of murder, police said.

Police believe the third victim, Brandon Perez, 31, of Ontario, was the target of the robbery; his body was found fatally wounded in the rear of the home.

Although police have not determined a specific motive for the robbery, they said Perez appears to have been specifically targeted.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Ontario Police Det. Gary Naranjo at (909) 395-2764.
