Traffic-loving Glendale Community College chicken dies

A black hen named Lucky that ruffled some feathers in Glendale has passed away.

Lucky pecked its way to stardom in 2010, after taking up residence behind the electronic billboard at Glendale Community College for two months.

The well-fed bird had dodged animal control officers several times by attempting risky flight maneuvers into traffic at Verdugo Road and Mountain Street.

Authorities from the Pasadena Humane Society said the chicken was creating dangerous traffic conditions for drivers.

The hen, dubbed "Lucky," was finally captured by Berna Arnold and her 8-year-old son, Nathan. They used fishing nets to grab it and took it to their home in Simi Valley, KTLA-TV reported.

At the time, the Arnolds said Lucky fit right in with their other pets, including a horse, a bearded dragon, lizards and three other chickens.

The Arnolds released a statement saying the hen "passed away on Nov. 13," KTLA-TV reported.

They added, "Lucky had a great life with us and was much loved, and will be missed."

The Arnolds believe Lucky was around 7 or 8 years old.
