Heat should ease in Southern California after record-setting day
Southern California's summer-like heat is expected to stick around Tuesday, but shouldn't threaten Monday's record-setting highs, forecasters said.
Temperatures on Tuesday should stay in the 80s for most of the area, said Stuart Seto, a weather specialist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard. Downtown Los Angeles and Burbank were forecast to hit 88 degrees, and Long Beach was predicted to top out at 85.
Woodland Hills would be the hottest spot at 91 degrees, Seto said.
On Monday, record-high temperatures for the date were broken or tied across the Southland. Downtown L.A. reached 94 degrees, tying a record set in 1898.
Long Beach Airport hit 93 degrees, beating the 1976 record of 90. Santa Barbara Airport saw a high of 94, beating the record of 87, also set in 1976.
Temperatures should steadily cool off as the week progresses, Seto said. A low-pressure system should also bring some drizzle Wednesday night and a chance of rain Thursday and Friday, he added.
"Hard to believe, huh?" Seto said.
