Police were looking Monday for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed an 18-year-old special needs student in South Los Angeles.

Police said the student was crossing Broadway just south of Century Boulevard about 7 p.m. Saturday when a motorist in a minivan struck him, killing him instantly.

The car, which police are describing as a late-model Chrysler Town & Country van, possibly green, did not stop.

The victim’s family issued a plea to KTLA-TV Channel 5 for the motorist to come forward and turn himself or herself in. The victim was a student at Banneker Special Education Center, KTLA reported.
