Soldier from Southern California dies in Afghanistan

A soldier from Running Springs, a mountain community in the San Bernardino National Forest, has died in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Sunday.

Spec. Daniel Carson, 21, died Friday in Kandahar province. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment, 25th Combat Aviation Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, from Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii.

No details of the death were released.
