Local ski season kicks off as 2 Big Bear resorts open
Following the first cold snap of the year, skiing has returned to Southern California.
Both Bear Mountain and Snow Summit, sister ski resorts in Big Bear, opened for business Monday after a weekend of making snow.
Bear Mountain has two chairlifts open, No. 1 and No. 7. Snow Summit has opened one, said Clayton Shoemaker, an employee of the resort.
Several other area resorts are not yet open.
