Cold front to bring rain, wind to Southern California

A cold front generated over the northern Pacific will bring rain, wind and high surf to Los Angeles starting Wednesday, National Weather Service forecasters said Tuesday.

The wintry weather will blow into San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties Wednesday morning, hit Ventura County in the early afternoon and then move into Los Angeles County, forecasters in Oxnard said.

The ‘unsettled weather’ will be accompanied by light to moderate rain and gusty winds, forecasters said. ‘Dangerously high surf along the coastline from Wednesday night through Sunday’ -- with local sets of up to 15 feet -- is predicted.

“Highest surf can be expected Thursday afternoon through Friday… then diminish slowly through Saturday night and into Sunday,” stated the weather service advisory. “Surf and swell conditions could be hazardous to anyone entering the water late Wednesday through this weekend, with dangerous rip current potential.”
Rainfall will likely be modest, with between a quarter-inch and half-inch expected in Ventura and Los Angeles counties, with up to an inch falling on south-facing slopes of the San Gabriel Mountains.

But the snow level won’t have that wintry feel: It will generally stay above 7,500 feet, according to the weather service advisory.
