An 79-year-old pedestrian was killed Saturday when she was hit by a pickup truck as she crossed a street in South Los Angeles, authorities said Sunday.
The Van Nuys resident, who has not been identified, was fatally struck shortly before 5 p.m. when “for unknown reasons” she stepped into the pickup truck’s path, said CHP Officer Tatiana Sauquillo. The accident occurred at the intersection of Century Boulevard and Vermont Avenue.
The 52-year-old motorist, a Los Angeles resident, was arrested, and investigators are trying to determine if alcohol may have been a factor in the accident, Sauquillo said. The driver was traveling southbound on Vermont Avenue at about 35 mph when the accident occurred, she said.
The investigation is continuing.
