L.A. Now Live: Discuss the proposal to raise the sales tax in Los Angeles

Times City Hall Reporter David Zahinser will join L.A. Now Live at 9 a.m. to discuss a City Hall plan to raise the sales tax in Los Angeles to balance the budget.

The Los Angeles City Council voted Tuesday to place a half-cent sales tax hike on the March 5 ballot to avert new cuts in city services. The proposal drew immediate opposition from critics in and out of city government.

Voters would decide the measure, which will boost collections by an estimated $215 million a year, on the same day they choose a new mayor. And there were signs the proposal already is influencing the race.
