Man sought in hit-and-run involving three teenagers

Police are searching for a man who struck three teenage boys at an intersection in Santa Ana, then fled the scene.

The teens, ages 15, 16 and 18, were crossing an intersection at 5th and Susan streets Friday afternoon when the suspect swerved around a stopped car and hit them, said Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna. He said the intersection does not have a crosswalk.

“They rolled up on his hood and down to the ground,” Bertagna said. “The driver didn’t stop. He just kept driving westbound on 5th.”

Witnesses said the victims, who were coming from a nearby park, were carrying a bag with unopened bottles of alcohol, but there were no signs they had been drinking, police said.

They were seriously injured and remained hospitalized. One is in “really bad shape,” Bertagna said.

Moments later police found what they believe is the suspect’s car abandoned at 5th and Figueroa streets. The car is a gray Honda Civic with a damaged hood.

The suspect is described as a Latino in his 20s wearing a baseball cap.
