Glendale man arrested in beating of aunt with broken table leg
Pogo Gurushyan was allegedly drunk and had dried blood on his face when officers approached him at 3:29 p.m. about the alleged assault, according to Glendale Police Department reports.
The back of his aunt’s head was covered in blood — an injury, she told police, that was the result of being repeatedly assaulted by her nephew.
The alleged assault began after they had lunch and coffee and then started arguing over an unspecified issue, according to police. While she was seated, she said her nephew suddenly approached and punched her in the face, police said.
She tried to fight back, but she claimed he broke a wooden table and used one of its legs to hit her several times, police said.
She suffered five wounds to her head and a cut on her left middle finger. Her right eye was bleeding and swollen shut, police said.
Gurushyan was taken into custody on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse, police said.
Soon after, police found the table legs, which were smeared with dried blood.
