Employee sprayed graffiti, then was paid to cover it up, police say

An employee of a graffiti removal company under contract with Burbank to remove vandals' tags from walls in the city has been accused of vandalism, burglary and forgery for allegedly tagging in parks, alleys and other public areas.

Usually there's a crime and then a cover-up.  In Burbank, it's the cover-up that is the alleged crime.

An employee of a graffiti removal company under contract with Burbank to remove vandals' tags from walls in the city has been accused of vandalism, burglary and forgery for allegedly tagging in parks, alleys and other public areas.

Enrique Medrano, 53, was arrested Thursday while on the job, said Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn.

Medrano was booked on charges of burglary, vandalism and forgery. He is suspected of fraudulently billing the city for more than $2,200 to paint over about 100 graffiti tags he had applied, Ryburn said.

Police did not name the graffiti removal company that employs Medrano. They said Medrano posted bond and is due in court on Dec. 3.
