Man’s body by tracks leads to O.C. Metrolink delays

Metrolink commuters heading to downtown Los Angeles from Orange County should expect major delays Monday morning after a man’s body was discovered next to railroad tracks in Santa Fe Springs, authorities said.

Officials with the Whittier Police Department, which patrols Santa Fe Springs, said the man in his early 50s may have jumped from an overpass and landed near the tracks.

Though the death is suspected to be a suicide, officials must complete their investigation and have closed the tracks, causing delays on Metrolink’s Orange County and 91 lines, said spokesman Scott Johnson.

Northbound and westbound trains are stopping at the Norwalk-Santa Fe Springs station, where passengers are being bussed to a transit center to access the MTA’s light rail system. From there, they take the Green line to the Blue line to the Red line to get to Union Station, or they transfer to other parts of the system.

Heading south from Union Station, Metrolink passengers are taking buses. Johnson said he expected the track to be opened again about 8 a.m.
