Youthful bandit claims bomb, robs Chase Bank near San Diego

Bank9

A youthful bank robber with acne on his face and a phony bomb in his hands robbed a bank Saturday afternoon in Imperial Beach, the FBI said.

Described by witnesses as 19 to 26 years old, with acne on his cheeks and nose and around his mouth, the bank robber struck the Chase Bank on Palm Avenue in the suburb south of San Diego. He pulled "a small gray box with wires attached" from a shopping bag and demanded money, the FBI said.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department bomb/arson unit later determined the box did not contain any explosives.
