Explosion triggers evacuation at downtown Caltrans headquarters
Caltrans workers were evacuated from the agency's Los Angeles headquarters underground garage area Tuesday morning when an automobile fire reportedly caused an explosion.
Transportation workers on the upper floors of the building at 100 S. Main St. were not evacuated, although employees were being prohibited from entering the building, according a Caltrans spokesman.
He said efforts to reach the building's security office for additional information were unsucessful. "I think they are busy right now," he said.
There was no immediate report of injuries and damage from the 10:46 a.m. fire, according to a Fire Department spokeswoman.
