A 4-year-old girl survived after falling 12 feet out of a second-story apartment window in Burbank on Tuesday, police said.

The girl was standing on a chair near the screened, open window when she fell shortly before police were called to the scene in the 1700 block of Peyton Avenue about 5 p.m., said Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn.

She suffered facial fractures and cuts, and is being treated at County-USC Medical Center.

It marked the second such incident in Burbank in recent months.

On Oct. 30, a 4-year-old boy fell 35 feet from his second-story window while jumping on his bed. He survived with a bloody nose and cuts on his head.

Ryburn urged parents with small children to move chairs and beds away from windows, especially when the weather is hot and the windows are open.

“You really need to maintain control of the surroundings of your children,” Ryburn said. “It can happen in the matter of a split second.’
