Woman stabs ex with ice pick outside OC church, gets 17 years

October 16, 2012 | 10:09 pm

A woman who hid in the backseat of her ex-boyfriend's car before stabbing him with an ice pick was sentenced Tuesday to 17 years in prison.

Elizabeth Villanueva, 49, of Yorba Linda pleaded guilty to one felony count of attempted murder with sentencing enhancements, domestic battery and two felony counts of aggravated assault, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office.

Authorities said Villanueva hid in the backseat of her ex-boyfriend’s Mercedes-Benz in the parking lot of a church on an August evening in 2010.

When the man returned to his car, the woman attacked him from behind, stabbing him in the head and shoulders, prosecutors said.

After crashing into a tree while attempting to put his car in park, the man was able to escape from the vehicle.

Villanueva fled on foot and threatened two people who followed her by telling them she was armed with a gun, authorities said. The two people were able to keep Villanueva in the area until police  arrived.
