TSA officer arrested on suspicion of theft at LAX

October 5, 2012 |  6:15 pm

A federal Transportation Security Administration officer was arrested Friday morning on suspicion of stealing $100 from an airline passenger who was going through a security checkpoint at Los Angeles International Airport, authorities said.

Los Angeles airport police said Clyde Reese, 47, of Gardena was booked on a misdemeanor theft charge after the passenger complained to authorities that his money was taken from a plastic bin where he had placed his wallet and other personal possessions for screening.

TSA spokesman Nico Melendez said the agency will remove Reese from his screening duties and help with the law enforcement investigation. He added that if wrongdoing is found, Reese could be fired.

“TSA holds its employees to the highest ethical standards and has a zero tolerance for theft,” Melendez said.
