SUV crashes into South L.A. liquor store during attempted carjacking

October 2, 2012 |  5:36 am

Police are investigating an apparent carjacking that ended Monday night when the vehicle crashed into a South Los Angeles liquor store.

The SUV crashed into Times Square Liquor, located at the corner of 42nd Street and South Broadway, about 11:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department and television reports.

The suspect ran off and the victim was treated for minor injuries, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Rich Hurtado. The suspect remained at large early Tuesday.

Hurtado said a struggle between the victim and suspect caused the crash. Investigators are looking into the possibility that the two might have known each other, he added, based on what witnesses have told police.

No weapon was used during the alleged carjacking, and no other injuries were reported, Hurtado said. An inspector red-tagged the liquor store.
