San Bernardino County deputy accused of sexual contact with inmate

October 6, 2012 | 11:38 am

A 38-year-old female San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave after allegedly having sexual contact with a 19-year-old inmate, authorities said.

Sheriff’s investigators earlier this week began looking into a possible relationship between Dep. Katina M. Carter and a male inmate at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, the department said in a statement.

A search warrant was then served at the suspect's home. Carter was arrested and released Friday on bail.

The relationship between Carter and the inmate was believed to be consensual, the statement said. The inmate’s name was not provided.

Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to call the sheriff’s specialized investigations division at (909) 387-3589.
