Roommate held in Long Beach fatal shooting

Long Beach police arrested the roommate of a man who was found shot at his home Sunday evening and later died of his wounds.

Benjamin Elpuz, 36, of Long Beach was booked for murder at the Long Beach City Jail and was being held Monday in lieu of $1-million bail. Police are withholding the victim's name pending notification of his family.

Investigators believe the incident began with an argument between the two men that escalated.

Police responded to the home in the 3100 block of Easy Avenue after a report of a shooting and found the victim shot in the upper torso. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The investigation led officers to a home in the 6800 block of Myrtle Avenue, where they found Elpuz, who was arrested without incident shortly before 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact Long Beach Police Homicide Detectives Malcolm Evans and Todd Johnson at (562) 570-7244.
