General area where 3 suspects were arrested in smuggling case.
Three people were arrested Tuesday evening on suspicion of trying to smuggle contraband after they beached their boat on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

A Coast Guard helicopter began tracking the "small suspicious boat moving at high speed," federal authorities said. Two Coast Guard vessels were diverted to assist with the operation.

The suspects were arrested about 5 p.m. after landing at Malaga Park, the U.S. Coast Guard said. The agency did not specify the type of contraband involved.

The suspects were turned over to federal authorities, and the incident was under investigation by U.S. customs agents.
