Off-duty officer shot during robbery in Escondido
An off-duty San Diego police officer was shot in the head during a robbery at an ATM in suburban Escondido, officials said Monday.
The officer, whose name was not released, is in critical condition at a local hospital with what were initially described as non-life-threatening wounds.
The gunman remains at large. The shooting occurred at mid-morning as the officer was taking money from an ATM; there is no indication that he was targeted because he is in law enforcement.
