New website highlights college transfer degree
Higher education leaders on Tuesday launched a new website with information and resources for community college students seeking admission to California State University campuses with a transfer degree.
A law adopted in 2010, the Student Transfer Achievement Reform Act, requires the two-year colleges to develop associate’s degrees that will guarantee those students admission with junior standing into similar bachelor’s degree programs at the four-year Cal State schools.
Students with the new transfer degree would need only 60 more semester units to complete a bachelor's of arts or science degree. The new website, AdegreeWithAGuarantee.com, provides information on how the transfer program works, lists of transfer majors, application information, a degree progress checklist and student testimonials.
"This is an excellent tool, and we're excited to share it with students, parents and the people who will help them make informed decisions about pursuing their bachelor of arts or science degrees," Ephraim P. Smith, Cal State’s executive vice chancellor and chief academic officer, said in a statement.
So far, about 450 associate degrees have been developed in fifty majors, including art history, geology, English, physics and theatre arts.
Because of budget cuts, only 10 of Cal State’s 23 campuses are accepting applications for spring 2013, limited primarily to students who have obtained the new transfer degree.ALSO: Endeavour: LAPD warns of crowds, traffic jams during shuttle move
