Skateboarders in Hollywood clash with police

October 13, 2012 | 11:24 pm

A clash between Los Angeles police and skateboarders Saturday night was quickly defused after a tactical alert was declared and officers in riot gear arrived on the scene to restore order.

More than 400 skateboarders had gathered on Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street.

When police arrived about 8:40 p.m., some of the skateboarders began throwing rocks and bottles at officers, said LAPD Det. Gus Villanueva. The crowd was there to attend a skateboarding movie premiere at the Vine Theater, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

No injuries were reported. There was no immediate word on arrests. Throwing bottles and rocks can be charged as assault with a deadly weapon, Villanueva said.
