Councilman Huizar questioned by LAPD after car accident

Councilman Jose Huizar and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa
Los Angeles Councilman Jose Huizar was being questioned Thursday night by police in connection with a traffic accident in his district.

Officers were at the scene at East 1st Street near the 101 Freeway in Boyle Heights. Huizar's Toyota Highlander hybrid was parked behind a Saturn, which had major damage to the trunk. A tow truck was in front of the Saturn.

The accident was reported about 7 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department said. It was not immediately clear whether Huizar or anyone else was injured.

Huizar, 44, was elected to the City Council in 2005 with the support of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

He lives in Boyle Heights. His 14th District stretches from downtown to Eagle Rock.
