Man found dead in Joshua Tree's Hall of Horrors climbing area

Joshua Tree National Park officials Thursday evening confirmed the death of a park visitor in a rock climbing area known as the Hall of Horrors.

Park search and rescue officials responded to an initial report of a visitor injury at 2:50 p.m., according to a statement from the National Park Service.

Officials found a 42-year-old man on a ledge 50 feet above the ground, but he did not respond to attempts to resuscitate him, according to the statement.

The man's name and hometown were not immediately released.

Hall of Horrors, a popular climbing area, is between the Jumbo Rocks and Ryan campgrounds.
