Downtown L.A. to celebrate Grand Park completion Saturday

Grand park

The completion of Downtown L.A.’s new Grand Park will be celebrated Saturday, as officials dedicate the last phase of the 12-acre park that extends from the top of Bunker Hill to City Hall.

The festivities kick off at 4:30 p.m. and will include performances by the Latin Jazz duo Dos y Mas and the aerial dance group Badaloop. Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina and other guests are also scheduled to speak.

The celebration marks completion of the park’s full, four-block plan. The upper half of the park, including a water fountain and “splash-pool,” opened last month.

The new park provides downtown with its first major green space, and officials hope it will become a destination for those living in and around the city's historic core.

Other planned park events include a performance by the Axis Dance Company on Oct. 27 and a music-filled Dia de Los Muertos celebration on Nov. 2.
