Motorcyclist rear-ends two vehicles on freeway in Cerritos, dies

A Corona man was killed after his motorcycle rear-ended two stopped vehicles on the 91 Freeway in Cerritos and was thrown from his bike, the California Highway Patrol said Saturday.

James R. Scarborough, 54, was riding a 2007 Honda motorcycle in heavy traffic about 6:50 p.m. Friday when he crashed into a 2005 Nissan Altima that was stopped in the carpool lane. He then struck a 2004 Ford Exhibition. He was driving about 35 to 40 mph and was apparently trying to maneuver between the carpool lane and the No. 1 lane, said CHP Officer Ed Jacobs.

The crash occurred on the eastbound freeway at Shoemaker Avenue. Scarborough died the scene.
